Melissa Campbell-Langdell En un par de semanas, Uds. van a regresar al pasado para un momento, y hoy día van a ver el buen ministerio que hace Todos los Santos ahora, pero ahora para un momento, les transportaré momentáneamente al futuro. So in a couple of weeks, on History Day, we will all take a trip down memory lane, and today you will see the good work that All Saints is doing in the present at the Annual Meeting, but for now, if you will indulge me, I will bring you to the future of what we hope this transition work is all about, drawing from today’s lessons. “All things are lawful for me” but not all things are beneficial. Se dice “Yo soy libre de hacer lo que quiera.” Es cierto, pero no todo conviene (1 Cor. 6:12). This is kind of like trying to sort out what to do during an interim period, and what to focus on as a church tries to develop its mission and vision and who it wants to call as its next leader. Parte del trabajo de un ministerio de transición es pensar en misión y visión, y tenemos que pensar en esta frase. What does All Saints’ need to focus on as a parish? What is really important to what makes All Saints’ special? Que es muy importante a Todos los Santos – ¿es la alabanza? Is it serving the poor that makes All Saints’ what it is? Is it being part of the Episcopal Church? O ¿es lo que hace Todos los Santos en el mundo? How important will it be to have a priest who has a Ph.D.? O ¿es más importante tener una reverenda o un padre quien puede hablar con toda la gente en la iglesia? Do you need a great preacher, or is pastoral care more important?  It could be a mix of all of these, but priorities are important. To learn what is in the DNA of this congregation, what is not only lawful but what is vital to your genetic makeup, you will need to do a lot of listening in the next couple of months. And not to me necessarily! Para saber que es en el código genético de esta congregación, van a tener que escuchar bien en los meses que vienen, ¡y no a mi tanto! J You will need to spend time in the temple, like Samuel, because the lamp of the Lord hasn’t gone out. God still speaks to us. Dios todavía nos habla, y vamos a tener que quedar en el templo un poco. You will need to listen to each other—and at unexpected times, to hear what God is telling you about what makes this place a unique center of prayer. Van a tener que escucharle uno al otro para ver que son los dones especiales de esta congregación. If you hear each other’s’ stories on History Day, you will learn that this place does certain things well and certain things not so well. Va a escuchar en el día de Historia cuales son las áreas en que esta iglesia históricamente ha servido a la comunidad y a sus miembros, y en que ha fallado la iglesia.  Because success and failure tells us where God is calling us to be. Y también en la historia veremos las semillas de esperanza para el futuro. What can we learn from the past about what All Saints/Todos los Santos can do in the future? This will mean listening to the young voices among us. Esto significa escuchar a los voces como la de Samuel, quien trae una nueva voz al templo. If we listen, the Young in our midst will help us discern what really Works. And it means listening to the elders among us. La gente mayor tiene cuentos que nos pueden dar la sabiduría de Eli, y van aprendiendo de nuestros errores en el pasado. Let us learn from the young and the old. And let us take wisdom from the gospel passage for today. Often in ministry there will be someone saying something that sounds very slick. Jesús dice algo que sorprende a Natanael, que le había visto debajo de la higuera. Jesus tells Nathaniel he’s seen him under the fig tree, and Nathaniel freaks out! Natanael le dice que es el Mesías, solo por haber dicho esto. But seeming sort of psychic or saying impressive things isn’t what makes Jesus our Savior. His wonders are much more subtle, as in the parables that challenge us. Vemos mucho mas de lo bueno que es Jesús en sus parábolas que nos dan desafíos para vivir mejor. And we see much more of his glory in his example of giving his life and rising again.  Vemos mucho más de su gloria en su ejemplo de dar su vida y ser resucitado. So use discernment, as you enter this next phase, usan discernimiento en esta etapa que viene. What is really right for All Saints, Oxnard and ¿que es un espectáculo; what’s a spectacle, solo para asombrar? If you discern wisely, you will frame an identity that will help you live even more fully into what God is calling you to do in Oxnard and in the world. Si piensen con diligencia, van a discernir un llamado que Dios tiene para Todos los Santos en su trabajo en Oxnard y en el mundo.
